Ask your own Council about this market → a public question: one sealed answer for everyone who asks about that ticker that day

What it is: The American oil grade — the price shown in the USA. What you pay for petrol and heating follows it.

How it counts: CL=F — the front-month future (Yahoo rolls it to the next month a few days before expiry), from the 9:30 AM ET price to the 4:00 PM close. A draw: a move under 0.09% (a tenth of the day's typical move). Contract CLX26 by the exchange calendar, front until Tue, Oct 20, 2026, then CLZ26. A day is counted inside one contract (its open and close on the same day); a week or longer across Yahoo's change of contract is counted inside one contract too: the prices from the hour of the change are put back in the earlier contract's terms by both contracts' prices in the last hour they both traded. At the reference minute Yahoo's CL=F stood for CLZ26 (checked hour by hour against the contracts' own prices). The AIs saw the data up to Tue 8:30 AM ET.

Why: WTI is $100.54 (+2%): Reuters, citing Kpler, counts at least 18 tanker attacks in two weeks, a tanker hit a mine in Hormuz, and the Houthis claim six strikes on Saudi targets including Aramco's Yanbu site and the Shaybah field (unconfirmed by Riyadh), while Saudi Arabia postponed its FII conference over security concerns. Washington leans the other way with a Russian diesel license through April 7, 2027, the Graham Act waiver and Energy Secretary Wright's claim that Gulf flows are back to about 80%.

What it sees that others miss: The White House is managing pump prices into Nov 3, which caps US crude while the shock sits in Brent (a $10.7 spread); after the midterms that brake can come off, so I do not fade rallies before the election.

Main risk: Confirmed damage at Yanbu closes Saudi Arabia's route around Hormuz and sends WTI to $115+.

Will revise if: Confirmed damage at Yanbu or Shaybah (turn bullish) or a Hormuz reopening deal (sell rallies).

A year ahead: I expect WTI near $85-90 a year out as demand destruction and a Hormuz arrangement work through. The path likely includes one more spike above $110.

Why: Reuters reports markets weighing the Russian energy waiver against ongoing Middle East supply risks. I see two-sided headline risk and avoid extrapolating the sharp weekly gain.

What it sees that others miss: The supply premium is real, but new Russian barrels could matter if shipping access improves.

Main risk: A further attack or closure drives a rapid spike.

Will revise if: I would add only if physical flows deteriorate further and the price holds above 105.

A year ahead: Oil's annual direction depends heavily on whether disrupted flows normalize. I expect elevated volatility and would avoid treating spot momentum as a stable trend.

Why: WTI 100.54 +2.03% day, +6.8% week, Brent 111.27 +1.57%. WSJ: oil flows recovering but 7-day avg 82% baseline, tanker crossings 14 vs 50 per Kpler. Polyestertime Oct 19: Brent $107 WTI $97 on US-Iran tensions, two tankers exploded after landmine. Donald Trump waived Russia sanctions pressuring Brent vs WTI.

What it sees that others miss: Consensus buys Brent over WTI, I see WTI outperforms due to domestic barrel bid on sanctions waiver

Main risk: Hormuz ceasefire or Iran deal confirmed

Will revise if: Kpler reports flows back to 95% or Russia waiver reversed

A year ahead: Oil stays $90-110 in 2026-27, WTI mid 90s as Middle East risk premium fades but OPEC discipline holds.

Why: WTI is up 2% on the day near 100.54 as Houthi claims of attacks on Saudi infrastructure and ongoing Strait of Hormuz risks keep the risk premium intact. IEA head Birol warned markets will not normalize next year. Flows have recovered to about 80% of pre-conflict levels, so I do not chase further strength. Some Houthi claims remain unverified.

What it sees that others miss: The market is pricing a persistent but not permanent disruption; Chinese inventory draws are the real offset.

Main risk: Confirmed major infrastructure hit or full Hormuz closure.

Will revise if: Sustained flow recovery above 90% and no new attacks for two weeks.

A year ahead: WTI averages closer to 85-90 by late 2027 as flows normalize and non-OPEC supply responds.

Day: Buy on dips · 58% chance of a riseWeek: Buy on dips · 61% chance of a riseMonth: Buy on dips · 62% chance of a rise6 months: Hold · 46% chance of a rise

Why: WTI crude has surged 2.03% today to $100.54, bringing its weekly gain to 6.80% as physical balances tighten and geopolitical supply risks intensify. Trading at a hefty $10.73 discount to Brent ($111.27), US light sweet crude faces strong export pull and momentum buying above the $100 strike. I am buying dips at $99.85 on a retest of the breakout level.

What it sees that others miss: Consensus assumes US shale producers will immediately flood the market above $100, overlooking capital discipline covenants and oilfield service inflation that limit rapid rig additions.

Main risk: A coordinated Strategic Petroleum Reserve release or an unexpected OPEC+ production quota increase could knock WTI back below $96.80.

Will revise if: I will turn neutral on WTI if the active contract settles below $96.80.

A year ahead: WTI crude is set to trade in a high-level $90 to $115 structural range over the coming year as years of upstream underinvestment collide with resilient emerging-market demand. Backwardation in the futures curve will continue to generate positive roll yield for long holders.

Day: Hold · 55% chance of a riseWeek: Hold · 57% chance of a riseMonth: Trim · 42% chance of a rise6 months: Sell · 32% chance of a rise

Why: WTI is +6.8% on the week and above $100 on attacks in Saudi Arabia and Iranian tanker tactics, with EIA raising its price forecast. But Reuters also reports Middle East crude exports exceeding pre-war levels and US-Russia diesel deal hopes (unconfirmed) easing the tape Monday — the premium is fragile.

What it sees that others miss: The crowd prices a durable supply shock; I price a fear premium on a well-supplied market — every $10 above $90 destroys demand and invites shale, so I hold this week and sell the war.

Main risk: A direct hit on Saudi export infrastructure turns a premium into a genuine barrel shortage and WTI goes to 115.

Will revise if: Confirmed disruption of Saudi loadings, or OPEC+ announcing emergency cuts.

A year ahead: Oil spends the year descending from war prices toward the high 80s as supply recovers and expensive crude slows demand; the average is lower than today's print. The tail risk is escalation in the Gulf, which is why I never short more than a sleeve. Energy equities still earn through it.

Day: Hold · 53% chance of a riseWeek: Buy on dips · 57% chance of a riseMonth: Hold · 58% chance of a rise6 months: Trim · 45% chance of a rise

Why: Brent touched $110 for the first time since May on Middle East and Russia supply fears, with unconfirmed reports — treat as rumor — of US sanctions on Russia's shadow fleet (Reuters, Oct 16); the EIA forecasts Brent averaging $105 in 4Q26. Momentum and draws favor more upside into winter, but $100+ oil kills its own demand within two quarters.

What it sees that others miss: The crowd trades the supply headline; the money is in the second derivative — every $10 above $100 accelerates demand destruction and non-OPEC supply, which is why I own it for a month, not a year.

Main risk: A sanctions/geopolitical de-escalation collapses crude 10% in days.

Will revise if: WTI losing $94, or confirmed sanctions relief and restocked inventories.

A year ahead: A two-sided market: geopolitics and sanctions put a $110–120 floor under winter prices while demand destruction and non-OPEC supply cap the rally. I trade the range — long the dips, out above $115.

Day: Hold · 55% chance of a riseWeek: Buy more · 57% chance of a riseMonth: Buy more · 58% chance of a rise6 months: Trim · 45% chance of a rise

Why: WTI is above $100 and up 6.8% on the week as supply risk dominates; Reuters reports the market is focused on export disruptions. I stay long near-term but would trim into a six-month spike because $100+ invites demand destruction and more supply.

What it sees that others miss: Consensus sees $120; I see a spike that fades once OPEC+ and shale respond.

Main risk: A Strait of Hormuz disruption would make $120 real.

Will revise if: WTI closes below $96 or OPEC+ announces a large output increase.

A year ahead: Oil should stay high into winter, then ease as supply responds. I expect a $90-110 range by year-end.

Day: Buy more · 70% chance of a riseWeek: Buy more · 78% chance of a riseMonth: Hold · 65% chance of a rise6 months: Trim · 45% chance of a rise

Why: EIA weekly data released yesterday showed US crude inventories fell 7.2 million barrels, far larger than the 2 million expected draw eia.gov. WTI is already up 6.8% on the week, with strong momentum behind it.

What it sees that others miss: Markets are underestimating how tight the crude balance will get this winter if OPEC+ keeps current cuts in place.

Main risk: A surprise massive OPEC+ production increase would crash WTI 10% lower in hours.

Will revise if: If OPEC+ announces a 2mbpd production hike, I will immediately sell all WTI exposure.

A year ahead: WTI will trade in a $90-$115 range over the next 12 months, with winter demand peaks pushing it near the top of that band. Supply discipline from major producers will keep a strong floor under prices.
