Guinness World Records has confirmed that the launch of Grand Theft Auto V broke six new world records. Two of them are the highest revenue made by an entertainment product in 24 hours and the fastest entertainment property to reach $1 billion in sales.
The game came out on 17 September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the fifteenth title in the Grand Theft Auto series. It is also the first main game in the series since Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008. Rockstar North made it and Rockstar Games published it. It is an open world action-adventure game, and critics praised it.
In its first 24 hours it sold 11.21 million copies and earned $815.7 million (£511.8 million). On 20 September 2013, just three days after release, its sales reached $1 billion (£624.45 million). These numbers beat earlier records held by the Call of Duty series and by big movies such as The Avengers and Avatar.
